Fashion Week is starting and, of course, my eyes have already been feasting on incredible styling, even though it’s only been a few days. And honestly, it just reassures me of how important styling clothes really is. There is no crazy haul of new pieces that can give you quite the same thrill as restyling things you already own in new and exciting ways.

And because I’m still deep into my Isn’t That Yesterday’s Outfit? challenge, I’ve been looking at a few of my favourite past shows for inspiration.

A redo of the outfit that felt flat last week

Last Saturday I wore my Mango crochet top under a tank top with linen cargo trousers. I needed something comfortable, but looking back, the outfit felt a little flat and boring for me.

So on Monday (Day 5 of the challenge) I tried something different and wore the crochet top over a white T-shirt instead. It’s still crazy warm here in Spain, but even the slightest bit of layering can add another dimension to an outfit while keeping everything else quite summery.

This is where your lighter summer pieces can work really well. Try using them to create little layers and add some contrast — a summer top over a T-shirt or white shirt, or even a tank top layered over a shirt. Nothing heavy, just enough to make the outfit feel a bit different.

Today: the outfits I’ve been reworking instead of replacing, the colour combinations I’m stealing from Fashion Week, and the tiny NYFW styling tricks you can try with what’s already in your wardrobe.
