Is it really important to dress for my body shape?
Short answer: only if you want it to be.
The long answer: body shape guidelines have been around forever. They’re designed to help you “balance proportions” or create the illusion of an idealised silhouette (hello, hourglass obsession). For some people, those rules feel like a handy shortcut—you follow them, and it’s easier to put an outfit together that feels put-together.
Others see it as a style buzzkill, like someone hovering over their closet saying, “nope, not for your body type.” I’m one of those people. Sometimes I love to accentuate my waist; other times, I throw on something oversized and shapeless. Both choices are valid because they feel comfortable, and more importantly, both feel like me.
